Meditations on Nature: the Mystical Oil Landscapes of John
Barger
Featured at Monticello Fine Arts Gallery’s One Man Show
With
oil landscapes that invite its viewers to slow down and
celebrate the essential magic of quiet landscapes and sacred
moments spent in awe of creation, the Monticello Fine Arts
Gallery is proud to announce a one-man show devoted to the
works of John Barger
beginning with an August 4 pre-show sale and extending through
Gallery Night September 18. Barger will be the Monticello
Gallery’s featured artist for its Gallery night presentation,
according to Glenna Crocker, gallery owner.
A Santa Fe native who now resides in Texas, Barger received a
fine arts degree from the University of Texas and has also
studied art in Mexico and Europe. His work, which he himself
describes as “meditations on nature, not transcriptions of the
landscape” captures nature’s splendor in geographic regions
ranging from Wyoming to Florida. An active participant in the
art world of the sixties, Barger says he later found himself
looking for “something to celebrate rather than protest in
paint”, so his nature subjects reflect a mystical, spiritual
appreciation reminiscent of George Inness (American, 1825-1894).
Barger, who sold his first painting at age 13, and he subsidized
what he refers to as his bohemian lifestyle of the sixties
through the sale of his work at various outdoor shows and other
artist venues. Today John Barger’s work is collected by an
elite group of corporate and private citizens who appreciate the
ethereal mysticism of Barger’s landscape meditations. Barger
joins a varied group of artists on display at Monticello Fine
Arts Gallery, a collection that seeks to celebrate the best
in a wide range of subjects and styles of original art.
Monticello Fine Arts Gallery, formerly the Evelyn Siegel
Gallery, is located at 3700 West Seventh Street (at the top of
the hill), just west of Downtown Fort Worth, in the heart of the
Museum District. For more information about the work of John
Barger — or the Monticello Fine Arts Gallery— please
call us at 817 731 6412.
The
gallery will be open 7 days a week, September through November
